When I started this blog I had quite a bit of free time on my hands. Really for the first time I can remember since high school summers. It has taken me a while to get caught up with blogging but I am back in the swing of things!
When I got hired at King’s Daughters I was so nervous. I was just getting used to being at Bellefonte and felt like I had to start all over. Especially being hired on to work in a cancer center. Just like I said in my interview, it is not a position I take lightly. Not that I would take any other position “lightly” but so many of my patients are fighting for their lives.
Half of my time at work I spend at the cancer center. Cancer and treatment for cancer can have a big affect on eating, drinking, and digestion. When there are difficulties in these areas it can lead to treatment delays, weight loss/gain and possibly malnutrition. I get to help patients navigate through their struggles in these areas. It is by far the most challenging yet rewarding experience. The other part of my workweek I am at the Center for Healthy Living (CHL). At CHL I get to counsel patients in surgical weight loss, non-surgical weight loss and diabetes. At both places I have met the most amazing people and my co-workers are all so kind-hearted and fun! (I am not just saying that because they may be reading this LOL). God has blessed me with this job.
On July 25thEric and I were asked to take a position as worship leaders at Highland Christian Church in Maysville, Kentucky… Happens to be where our best friends moved 2 years ago. Justin Butler became the head pastor about a year ago and Sarah Butler oversees the children’s ministry there. A long time ago we were asked to take the position leading worship there and had to say no, thinking we would not be asked again. When we got asked again on July 25th, we were very shocked and felt so thankful and wanted. This time we took a couple days to work out the details but Eric and I both knew it was our path to take it.
We travel every weekend ~1.5 hours one-way. Sometimes stay at our second home on Saturday nights (Sarah and Justin’s lol) and sometimes drive up Sunday morning. People have expressed comments like “that’s crazy” or “wow, that’s going to be difficult.” Well, they are exactly right. It is crazy, it is difficult. We knew it would be and I am sure the most difficult part has not come yet. The thing is, when God is involved he takes something that appears to be so hard, makes it easy, all the while blessing you and others at the same time. BUT you have to let him and trust him. IF YOU LET HIM IN, HE WILL SHOW UP FOR YOU EVERY TIME!
Trust me when I say, making an every weekend commitment and driving so far every week was not a the top of my weekend to do list. Not to say we didn’t want to do it but there were obvious pros and cons if you think of it from the world’s view. Eric and I feel like Jesus called and we answered. This is what we feel is the purpose of our lives. We hope to fulfill God’s Will for our lives because in doing so He will be shown in us.
Since starting to lead worship on September 1st, we have been blessed in ways I really can’t describe. My thoughts have already shifted in a positive way… Starting my job at King’s Daughters was so nerve wrecking and now I look forward to walking into work everyday. I challenge you to see life from God’s perspective and let Him into your life 100%. When you do, you will be able to find true joy no matter what the circumstances are.
